The committee of the Toodyay Race Club recently started work on preparing the track for the 2017 TABtouch Toodyay Picnic Race Day on Saturday September 23.

Because the club only races once a year, the grounds are mothballed for most months but as race day approaches the level of activity increases so that the track, facilities and infrastructure will meet the stringent standards of the Chief Steward of Racing and Wagering WA.

We are very pleased to announce that the Minister for Racing and Gaming Paul Papalia MLA will be attending this year’s event and will address the crowd before racing gets under way.

We are still seeking sponsors for a couple of races. Part of the sponsorship package enables you to rub shoulders with the minister and other dignitaries in the VIP marquee. Please contact the club secretary if you would like more information. The free children’s entertainment this year includes the Double Lane Super Slide, Obstacle Challenge and The Bouncer, the usual clowns and comedy characters plus sand-art which proved very popular last year. Other regular features of the annual event include the Myles Wilson Dash for Cash with $1000 being awarded by Sue and Phil Wilson to the amateur football club whose runner wins the 100-metre foot race. Winners of the various categories in Fashions on the Field will receive fabulous jewellery prizes.

We are now selling furnished bays in the long marquee for parties of up to 20 with double, or larger, bays available for bigger groups; the marquee is enclosed in a secure area overlooking the final straight with full bar facilities, a TAB counter and the big screen which shows the racing and the AFL preliminary final. Contact the secretary for further information.

Full bar facilities will be available on race day with extensive catering options from Red Robin Hospitality, plus a variety of food stalls and wagons.

Club membership is available at a cost of $45 which includes race day entry ($25), a race book, access to the members’ upstairs bar and trackside enclosure plus free tea, coffee and biscuits all day. Please contact the club secretary on 0427 299 330 for full details of the event.
